I know it’s been a long time since I’ve done anything with the blog, and I apologize to anyone who was checking the site waiting for an update.
In the months since the completion of the case, not a lot has gone on with regards to it, but I do have one gigantic piece of news that I am very excited about:
The wooden case won the case modification competition at Digital Overload 2010! There was some stiff competition, especially from an acrylic case with (get this) saw blades attached to it! My wooden case was a bit weary about sitting next to such an opponent, but the case played nice and didn’t cut up the wooden one.
Click the read link to see some pictures and some video!
Here is an interview with me at Digital Overload 2010 in the Rhode Island Convention Centre, explaining my case.
Don’t forget you can click pictures to enlarge them. All of the following pictures are credited to Frederick Nassar. For more pictures from Digital Overload 2010, visit Do-Photos and search for photos tagged “Camm” or “Team Canada” if you want to see more of my friends and I.
Here is me standing with the case a day before the competition:
This is me talking about the case at the awards ceremony before we found out who won the competition:
Here is the other case I was up against in the finals:
More talking; better lit though for the case to show off that beautiful orange-y glow:
I won! Here’s me receiving my gold medal (go Canada!):
The prizes were a Zalman Z7Plus ATX case for me, and a Zalman CNPS10X Performa CPU cooler for the second place winner:
Thanks to CPU Magazine for putting on the competition and for sponsoring the event and giving us these great prizes!
I’ve already taken my case and stripped it down for a custom interior paint job. I’m making it flat black and I’m also painting the rear panel flat black too. I have some pictures from just after I painted the case right here:
And for reference, here is what the interior colour was beforehand (Courtesy of the Zalman product page):
Yes, I sanded with 320 grit sandpaper and then primed the entire case before I painted it. I want a rougher texture so I didn’t sand the primer and I won’t be wet sanding the paint. I did 2 coats of grey Krylon primer and 3 coats of flat black Krylon spray paint. I will be doing 1 thick clear coat using an acrylic spray also made by Krylon. The total cost for the materials will be $28, for 2 cans of primer, 2 cans of paint, and 1 can of clear coat.
I’ll be making a thread on Maximum PC for that case mod once I’m done it so that I can show that off, which will be done next week once it stops raining so I can spray the clear coat.
I hope you enjoyed this update as much as I enjoyed winning the competition. I don’t know if I’ve stated it on the blog yet, but I will be making another wooden case starting this spring which I will bring to Digital Overload 2011 in hopes to win a second year in a row!
When I make the new case, it may have it’s own site, it may not. It’s a bridge I’ll cross when I get there but I may just use this site and reorganize the pages (which I have been meaning to do but haven’t been keeping up with). As for more detailed plans, I have decided not to release any. I have decided that I just want this project to be over and I want to move onto the next thing. The next case may or may not have more detailed plans, depending wholly on whether or not I think it’s more important to release plans for something I spend hours upon hours designing for a few people or if it’s more important to inspire people to design their own cases and just use my very detailed (come on, you know it is!) blog as a reference.

Very very sexy case, and congrats once more buddy! That is one sweet case. You should take orders!
And a very sexy song playing in the background at the start XD
Haha thanks man! =D
Depending on how the next case goes, and if it’s repeatable, I might just start up something like that.
Try and simplify cases and builds, and maybe it will be possible.
*high fives*
Congrats by the way on winning I’ll just have to step my game up next time and have spinning blades! that or Project: WarMachine I think I’ll get started on :P Anyways CONGRATZ prob go against you next year!
Thanks a lot man. =D We’ll definitely be in the finals again next year if we keep up what we’ve been doing. See you next year man!
